what would you
do for 100 million views?
(CAMBRIDGE, MA) – Tickets
are on sale for username: FAUST,
an original multimedia production created and directed by Harvard senior
Charlie I. Miller. Performances will be held April 9–13, 2008 at Harvard’s
New College Theatre, 12 Holyoke Street, Cambridge, MA.
This adaptation of the
Faust legend will thrill everyone from opera fans to YouTube junkies.
The show integrates live theatre and music with video, and features
a talented ensemble of performers with a variety of disabilities. The
“usernameFAUST” YouTube channel complements the live performance.
username: FAUST
tells the story of an isolated woman’s attempt to gain popularity
by remaking herself as an Internet celebrity. When a demonic tech support
team jeopardizes her password-protected existence, she must overcome
digital distortions to regain control of her life.
The cast includes Maureen
Finnerty as the reclusive Cass, Alice Dampman as her friend Wendy, Leslie
Rosenberg as the scheming Sophie, and baritone Wesley Ray Thomas as
Lucifer.
This project is Miller’s
senior honors thesis in Harvard’s Department of Visual and Environmental
Studies. Miller and the cast, drawn from all over the Greater Boston
area, began collaborating in early October. What began as improvised
workshops, scenes, and video projects has become a cutting-edge performance
unlike any other theatrical or cinematic event.
While complicated in
its technical execution, username: FAUST is at its core accessible
theatre. Miller designed the production to be a stimulating multi-sensory
experience that can be enjoyed by a diverse audience. The venue at Harvard’s
New College Theatre is completely accessible to patrons with disabilities.
Miller’s inclusive vision started in his native Colorado, where he
worked five years for PHAMALY, the nation’s only theatre company that
produces large-scale professional productions featuring an entire cast
of actors with disabilities.
